The
Langtang region lies to the north of Kathmandu.
A bus journey takes one to the starting point
at Syabrubesi. This trek offers a different
perspective to life in the Himalayas. With less
habitation and a much less crowded route than
the previous two, there is more time for peace,
silence and time for reflection. The usual route
also passes through the highly revered sacred
Gosaikund Lake where Hindus arrive for a pilgrimage.
The devotees are seen bathing in the frigid
waters in the lap of the Himalayan peaks. One
of the spots to visit is the Kyanjin Gompa (monastery
at 3,800m) where you will also encounter a cheese
factory and a lodge. The usual Langtang trek
takes about two weeks and can be extended to
include the Helambu region, which involves the
crossing of a pass named Ganjala at 5,106m.
The views along this trek are awesome.
